Agriculture Commission Announces
"Pasture Beef - Goals, Management and Opportunities" Seminar

The Calvert County Agriculture Commission and the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission/Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland announced today that it will host an informational seminar with guest speakers including Elmer Dengler, USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Dr. Lester Vough, Associate Professor, Forage Crops-Agronomy, University of Maryland.

This free informational seminar is scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2003 from 9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. at Calvert Pines Senior Center Auditorium, Prince Frederick. The seminar will focus on four key elements of pasture raised beef, which include goal setting, soil-plant management needs, year long grazing and finishing beef on grass. The seminar supports area farmers and landowners interested in learning about pasture raised beef as an income producing enterprise to sustain or increase revenue. Refreshments will be served.

The Calvert County Agriculture Commission is a 12 member advisory board to the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners charged with promoting the continuance of viable farming industries and explores and develops new agri-business.
