Commission Announces
"Pasture Beef - Goals, Management and Opportunities" Seminar

| The Calvert County Agriculture Commission
and the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development
Commission/Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland announced
today that it will host an informational seminar with guest speakers
including Elmer Dengler, USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service
(NRCS) and Dr. Lester Vough, Associate Professor, Forage
Crops-Agronomy, University of Maryland.
This free informational seminar is scheduled for Saturday, February
8, 2003 from 9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. at Calvert Pines Senior Center
Auditorium, Prince Frederick. The seminar will focus on four key
elements of pasture raised beef, which include goal setting,
soil-plant management needs, year long grazing and finishing beef on
grass. The seminar supports area farmers and landowners interested in
learning about pasture raised beef as an income producing enterprise
to sustain or increase revenue. Refreshments will be served.
The Calvert County Agriculture Commission is a 12 member
advisory board to the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners
charged with promoting the continuance of viable farming industries
and explores and develops new agri-business. For more information on
