| The Calvert County Agriculture Commission
announced today that it will host a field trip to the Beltsville
Agricultural Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland. The trip is
scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2003 from 10:00a.m. – 2:30p.m., the
bus will be leaving from the Calvert Country Market located at the
Prince Frederick Shopping Center, Prince Frederick, MD. Reservations
are required no later than March 31, 2003. Please bring a bag lunch.
The research center, known simply as Beltsville in agricultural
circles worldwide, has a reputation for excellence in agricultural
science and engineering. The tour will consist of seeing the diverse
ongoing agricultural research conducted at the center. Some of the
nation’s best scientists come to Beltsville to work on solving
problems in agriculture, human nutrition and the environment. Research
results from Beltsville benefits farmers in areas such as on-farm
testing of biological pest controls or natural mulches to replace
plastic mulch in vegetable fields. Learn the "latest" in
feeding, raising and breeding of livestock, and advances in plant
production.
The Calvert County Agriculture Commission is a 12-member advisory
board to the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners charged with
promoting the continuance of viable farming industries and explores
