"Horsing Around" at the
2006 Calvert County Farm Tour

Visit a working horse farm on Sunday July 16. 2006 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. and celebrate over 350 years of agriculture in Calvert County. Enjoy refreshments, equine demonstrations and exhibits, entertainment and agriculture-related events at the Lucky Cricket Farm in Huntingtown, Md.

Lucky Cricket Farm, a 30-acre equestrian educational center with rolling pastures, woods, pond and a stream, was purchased by owners Mike and Mary Russell in 1986. Originally, the farm was part of a 120-acre tract purchased by the Matteras from the Talbotts in 1954. The Matteras grew tobacco, corn and hay and raised beef cattle and horses. Since 1986, the current owners, family, friends and neighbors have helped bale hay and convert the farm from beef to strictly horses. The facility is climate-controlled for year-round use and has a new 16-stall barn with an attached cover-all indoor arena to go with the outdoor arena.

The 2006 Farm Tour, with its many horse-related activities and demonstrations, is designed for family fun and educational awareness and is sure to provide a day of fun and education for the whole family.

Due to parking restraints, participants are required to park at Plum Point Middle School in Huntingtown. Directions: From Route 4, turn onto Plum Point Road (Route 263), approximately 2 miles to Plum Point Middle School (past the elementary school on the right). Visitors are required to park at the school and use the free County shuttle buses to visit the farm. Farm is located only 1 mile from the school. County shuttle buses will transport visitors to Lucky Cricket Farm.

The 2006 Farm Tour is coordinated by the Calvert County Department of Economic Development and the Calvert County Agriculture Commission. The Agriculture Commission conducts the Farm Tour to educate Calvert residents about traditional farming and to provide the public with an opportunity to interact with the farming community.
