The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office offers training and qualifications to retired law enforcement officers under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA). Classes are limited to retired officers.
IMPORTANT: Due to the ongoing pandemic and other agencies closing their ranges, we are only allowing individuals who have already qualified with our agency, individuals who reside within Calvert County, and individuals who have retired from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office to qualify.
The qualifications will be conducted at the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Firearms Range located at the Appeal Landfill, 401 Sweetwater Road, Lusby, MD 20657. Each range day will begin at 1000 hours and should last approximately one hour. Please ensure you bring your retired law enforcement officer ID card; approximately 100 rounds of ammunition to complete two qualification courses of fire; and any foul weather gear you desire.
We conduct two 30-round qualification courses of which one being a low-light course, you will need to bring a flashlight as well. We also ask you wear proper range attire and no open-toed shoes or shorts. While operating a vehicle within the landfill, PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY AND CAUTIOUSLY.
For the 2023 year, we will have six (6) scheduled days with only six (6) shooters per scheduled hour. We are asking everyone to please be patient for this scheduling process. As before, you will contact me directly with the date and time that works best for you. If the date and/or time is already full, I will be asking you to choose a different date and/or time. This will be a first come, first served basis. If you are unable to make your scheduled date, please contact me as soon as possible via email or phone so you can be rescheduled.
Thank you all for everything you do, your support, and your years of service. We look forward seeing you in 2023. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email, text, or phone listed below.
